Frequently asked questions


Camarilla is a mobile application that is supported on most Android & iPhone devices. Your device should be able to receive SMS during the verification process. Your iPhone should be running iOS 8.0 or later to use Camarilla. Your Android phone should be running Android 4.1 or later to use Camarilla. We are currently working on full support for Android 7.0.

You will also need an adequate data plan in order to receive messages when outside the range of a Wi-Fi network.

If you try to download Camarilla on an unsupported device, you will receive a message that your device is not supported and you will not be able to download Camarilla. We currently do not support tablets or Wi-Fi only devices, and do not plan to do so in the foreseeable future.

Camarilla uses the same Internet data plan as web browsing and email on your phone.

You may be charged for using Camarilla and other data while you are roaming. Contact your wireless carrier for details about international roaming countries, SIMs, rates and policies. If you do not have an international data plan, turn off Cellular Data and/or Data Roaming to avoid data roaming charges.

Camarilla uses your phone’s internet connection (4G/3G/2G/EDGE or Wi-Fi, as available) to send and receive messages & photos. You do not have to pay for every message you send or photo you upload. As long as you have not exceeded your data limit or you are connected to a free Wi-Fi network, your carrier should not charge you extra for using Camarilla.

Be aware that:

  • If your phone is roaming, additional mobile data charges may apply.
  • If you send SMS messages to your friends inviting them to use Camarilla, additional service charges from your mobile provider may also apply.

If you log in with an existing account, we authenticate your user account with the combination of your phone number and email. We do not use your email address for other purposes. Your phone number is only used for operational, informational and administrative purposes.

When you are creating an account in Camarilla or log in with an existing account, you will have to provide your (valid) phone number on which you can receive SMS messages. Then you will automatically receive a PAC code which you can enter into the text field. With this process we verify the phone number you are using for Camarilla.

When you post a photo and/or video, this post will be visible for the friends you have selected in your Camarilla. The responses from your friend to a post are personal, between you and the other.

Whenever you want to post a photo to My Camarilla, you can choose to either take a photo or select one from your phone. When you want to take a photo, Camarilla uses your camera to capture this. If you want to use an existing photo, Camarilla connects to your photo library or gallery where you can choose any photo you like.

When you are inviting friends to your Camarilla you can see that Camarilla connects to your address book so you can select the friends you want to invite. Only for this activity Camarilla needs access to the contacts in your address book. We do not store any contact information from your address book on our servers.

On rare occasion, you may encounter some issues with connecting to Camarilla. This is usually caused by a problem with your phone’s internet connection, or a problem with your wireless carrier or Internet service provider.

Most connection issues can be resolved by doing the following:

  • Check if you have active internet connection on your device.
  • Confirm you are using the latest version of Camarilla from the App Store/Play Store.
  • Turn your airplane mode ON then OFF.
  • Delete Camarilla and reinstall. Note: This will not delete your account or your content history. Once installed again, you can easily access your Camarilla again.
  • Restart your phone.
  • Upgrade or restore your Operating System to the latest version for your device.
